SHELTER ISLAND HOUSE
This arts and crafts home on Shelter Island, overlooking Dering Harbor, was built as a summer retreat. The original house was stripped to its original structure and rebuilt to maximize the views of the surrounding landscape and waterfront.
Inspired by the craftsmanship of the arts and crafts movement, MR designed a new interior and exterior for the home where the client could escape their intense urban lives. The centerpiece of the new house is the double height living room with views of the harbor. To add warmth to the expansive space, we lined the walls with books and decorative objects, many from the clients own collection.
The home is furnished with a mix of antique and contemporary pieces. Throughout the house, we worked with artisans on special furnishings and finishes. Many of the pieces are custom designed, including the chandeliers by David Wiseman, mirrors and sconces by Thomas Boog, and an entry console by Carol Egan.
My role as junior designer included designing floor plan layouts, custom furniture drawings, specifying fabrics, palettes, specialty finishes and furnishings, styling, and ordering/invoicing all FF & E.
